Overview of AWWA C200 Spiral Seam Steel Pipe Standard for Water Transmission Pipeline: 1. Scope: The AWWA C200 standard covers butt welded straight seam or spiral seam steel pipes of 6 inches (150 millimeters) and above used for water transmission and distribution, including pipeline manufacturing, welding operation requirements, allowable deviations in thickness and size, end preparation, special section manufacturing, inspection and testing procedures. 2、 Revision process: The first steel pipe standard released by AWWA was 7A. 3 and 7A. 4 in 1940. Standard 7A. 4 applies to steel pipes with a diameter less than 30 inches (750 millimeters), while Standard 7A. 3 applies to steel pipes with a diameter greater than or equal to 30 inches (750 millimeters). Subsequently, considering that some pipelines used in water supply facilities were manufactured in steel mills rather than manufacturers' workshops, two new AWWA standards were issued in 1960. AWWA C201 replaces 7A.3 and is applicable to all pipes made of steel plates or steel plates in the manufacturer's workshop, regardless of diameter. The physical and chemical properties refer to the properties of the sheet or material used to manufacture pipelines. These performances are a function of steel mill practice and are not significantly affected by manufacturing procedures. AWWA C202 replaces 7A. 4 and involves rolled pipes typically produced in production tube mills. The specified physical and chemical properties are the physical and chemical properties of the completed pipeline. Pipelines manufactured in the manufacturer's workshop or steel pipe factory are suitable for water supply facilities with sufficient quality assurance. By reference, AWWA C202 (involving mill type steel water pipes) includes API-5L and API-5LX pipeline grades, which are manufactured according to API high-pressure application standards. Including ASTM A570/A570M and ASTM A572/A572MAWWA C200-75, high-strength steel in API high-pressure pipelines has been omitted from AWWA C200-75 due to redundancy. The API-5L and API-5LX pipeline grades fully comply with all requirements of AWWA C200 and can be used for water supply facility applications if availability or other economic factors require it. AWWA C200-75 introduces design standards for determining wall thickness to meet internal pressure conditions. These standards help in selecting the optimal combination of steel pipe thickness and material. The revisions in AWWA C200-86 include clarification on the forming of lap ends and gasket ends, as well as testing of O-ring gaskets. The subsequent version of this standard was approved by the AWWA Board of Directors on June 23, 1991; February 2, 1997; June 12th, 2005, June 10th, 2012, and January 14th, 2017. This version was revised on October 23, 2023.
